What is your favorite restaurant in Chincoteague?

We%26#39;ve been to Chincoteague the last two years as well as in 2004 and several times in the 90%26#39;s. Going back this September as well. In the last two years we%26#39;ve tried almost every restaurant on the island. Never been to AJs though. We went back to Bill%26#39;s twice last year for dinner but it wasn%26#39;t great ($16 bottles of water but instant mashed potatoes and cold veggies). Tried Etta%26#39;s (terrible at the time we went but nice atmosphere), Steamers (bad service,Long John Silvers food quality), Don%26#39;s (two years ago it wasn%26#39;t bad but this past year it wasnt%26#39; worth it) Woodys (was highly recommended but it was a huge disapointment) I think the best tasting meal came from Subway which is terrible to say considering we all love seafood. We tried Maria%26#39;s for lunch 2 years ago and it was awful, though their breakfast looks like it might be good and I%26#39;ve heard their pizza is good.

We wanted to try Captain Zach%26#39;s carryout but it wasn%26#39;t open at the time. We went to Creamery almost every night. Their ice cream and fudge was delicious and the folks there were so nice. We probably all gained ten pounds from those trips!

Does anyone have any suggestions? We (family of six) love seafood. Were we just there at a bad time of year (off season). What would you recommend from each restaurant?

What is your favorite restaurant in Chincoteague?

You need to try a couple more places ---

The Sea Shell Cafe is new as of last year -- you should like their food a lot -- they are open 5 days a week off season -- 7 days during season. Check out their reviews -- they do a good job. They have a website with the menu on it.

The Saigon Village is quite good if you like Vietamese food -- VERY informal but the food is fresh and well done.

Mr. Baldy%26#39;s is a good sandwhich and family place -- a little hard to find. If you have noisy kids its perfect

Maria%26#39;s is good for pizza -- that%26#39;s where I get it.

AJ%26#39;s has been spotty. It used to be excellent, then it wasn%26#39;t, now its dependent on when you go.

What is your favorite restaurant in Chincoteague?

AJ%26#39;s is my favorite but haven%26#39;t been to Chincoteague to eat dinner for a couple of years.

Not a fan%26#39;s of Don%26#39;s. Maria%26#39;s is spotty.

For lunch, get a sandwich from the small place across from the gas station and beside Don%26#39;s. Then take it to Memorial Parkk and find a nice picnic table. Any other food works too.

The Village is popular but I%26#39;m not their biggest fan. Chick it out because its probably just me.

I kind of like the Chincoteague Inn. Especially on their patio / porch. Its right on the water.

We%26#39;ve also been known to get one of the folks selling shrimp to steam it for us and eat it at the picnic table or terrace of our choice.

I just got back from a 2 day visit. Skipped Bill%26#39;s and walked up to Chincotague Inn. The Crabcakes were decent.

There%26#39;s not a real good restaurant on the island at this point. At least for dinner. We don%26#39;t really go for the food anyway.

Thanks for the replies. Last year we were going to try the Sea Shell Cafe but every time we went past there they appeared to be closed. There were never any cars there. (was in September) We took that as a bad sign. We%26#39;ve also driven past Mr. Baldys but have never tried it. We did eat at the Village several years ago. It was ok. We normally only eat out for dinner and eat breakfast and lunch at the house. We did stop at Subway (and Woody%26#39;s) once to take food to the beach.

Last year was the Sea Shell%26#39;s 1st year -- check the reveiws and try it. You won%26#39;t be disappointed. They close between lunch and dinner -- but have posted hours. It took a while to sort that out!

You can also get good things at the wine and cheese store downtown -- they really have excellent stuff for lunch or a picnic.

Subway is Subway -- a known -- J%26amp;B deli also makes subs -- they are down on South Main.

Thanks, we will try it this year. We did check out the wine and cheese store downtown and picked up a few things. We also bought some seafood from Gary Howard%26#39;s and cooked it for dinner one night. I was just curious what restaurants everyone likes to eat at.

Absolutely try Mr. Baldy%26#39;s - the food is great, it%26#39;s a lot of fun and the prices are affordable for families. As a local, we also like Saigon Village (it%26#39;s Vietnamese %26amp; very, very good) and love the sandwiches at Sea Star Cafe (they%26#39;re both on Main St.) We also get steamed shrimp %26amp; crab take-out at either Rickie%26#39;s Market (Main St %26amp; Beebe) or Gary Howard%26#39;s Seafood (Deep Hole Road) - you can count on them both to be fresh and reasonably priced.

Hope your trip is a good one!

Great topic. We love Chincoteague but the restaurant and shopping situation is just dismal. This year we%26#39;ve decided to rent a house instead of staying in a hotel so that I%26#39;ll be able to cook us a few decent meals.

There are several good dishes at AJ%26#39;s (the bouillabase is great) though the restaurant is clumsy and outdated as a whole and the Vietnamese place is one of the best choices.

I%26#39;m going to try the new spot that several people recommended but I think I will probably wind up doing a lot of eating in.

Do try the new places (as well as the old!)

The Sea Shell Cafe has been open since last June -- good reviews and different food for the island -- you may be surprised. Try the specials and the desserts.

There is a new Mexican restaurant about to open where Skippers used to be. Extensive renovations are being done and the new owner supposedly has experience and is running another successful and popular Mexican place.

Woody%26#39;s barbeque is good and new -- and is adding chicken to the menu this year -- no sit down dining but if you are renting a place with a dining room you can get great takeout.

We camp and cook most of our meals, or go to Ricky%26#39;s and get steamed crabs. You could pick up a bunch of steamed crab from any seafood stand and go to Memorial Park shelter. We went there one rainy day and it%26#39;s one of my favorite Chincoteague memories.

Capt. Zacks has some of the best seafood on the island. They are carryout only but well worth it. Oyster %26amp; clam fritters are as big as dinner plates, crabcake are excellent %26amp; the any of the fish blackened is great. They also steam %26amp; sell by the pound. I especially love the scallops blackened!
