Visiting Williamsburg for President's Day Weekend

Hi.

I%26#39;m starting to plan our vacation for February (my kids always have President%26#39;s Day week off) and we want to come to Williamsburg for a few days and then head to DC for a few more.

Since we are a family of 5 (2 adults, 17 yo son and 7 and 9 yo daughters), I am looking at the Hampton Inn on Capital Landing Road. After doing some reading here, it seems we are in need of a rental car. We will be taking the train from NYC and see the only rental car company at the Transportation Center is Colonial. Any experiences renting from Colonial Car Rental?

Also, can someone give me an idea of what will be happening at Williamsburg at this time? Will a lot of sites be closed? Are there any special events for President%26#39;s Day?

Any advice and suggestions would be appreciated.

TIA,

Shirley

Visiting Williamsburg for President's Day Weekend

I%26#39;d look into renting from Enterprise. They advertise, ';we%26#39;ll pick you up,'; and I%26#39;ve found them to be reliable.

There are usually special events at Colonial Williamsburg for that time, and all the sites (CW, Jamestown Settlement, Historic Jamestowne, Yorktown Victory Center, Yorktown Battlefield) will be open. In the winter months (January, February, and part of March), there aren%26#39;t usually as many activities, and visitation is lower, but that often gives you more chances for one-on-one conversations with the interpreters at the various trade shops. This past winter saw special tours of the Palace showing how the upkeep is done, for example.

Winter is really a nice time to visit.

I recommend Enterprise also, and use them often, but don%26#39;t believe the %26#39;we%26#39;ll pick you up%26#39; advertising. Not on your schedule; only on theirs. The most efficient thing to do is to take a taxi from the train station to the Enterprise office.

Thanks for the information. I was hoping there might be something special going on for President%26#39;s Day. Also want to check out Jamestowne. That looks really interesting too. We%26#39;ve been to a few living history museums and find it%26#39;s a great way to engage the kids without them getting bored.

Hmm, I was a bit concerned about renting from Enterprise since our train arrives at 11:15 am and the Enterprise office closes at noon (according to their website). If our train is late, we would probably not get to the office in time. That is why I was inquiring about Colonial since their office is right there and they offer a late pick up option. I guess I will have to call Enterprise and see what sort of arrangements I can make. Thanks for the advice.

Shirley
