mosquitoes and bugs in August

How bad? Any reason not to go?

It really all depends on the weather. If there is a lot of rain, high humidity, and no wind -- there will be bugs. If it is dry, low humidity and wind -- they won%26#39;t be as bad.

The town sprays via truck and a plane sprays several times a month -- this keeps the population under control for a few days after each spraying.

I will not lie -- there are mosquitoes, and August can be the worst month (see weather comments). Bring spray WITH DEET. But -- there is NO reason not to come. Make sure you have a screen room where you are staying and enjoy a fabulous island and all it has to offer.

There will be NO mosquitoes at the beach or anywhere the wind blows.

Many of the hiking/walking trails will be plenty bad. If you have insect repellent, you should be OK. Chincoteague isn%26#39;t nearly as bad as Assateague as was already explained.
