Fossil Hunting

Hi! We are coming down to the Hampton Roads area and are interested to know if there is anywhere to go nearby to find fossils and/or sharks teeth? I know about Chippokes Plantation and James River, I was wondering if there was anything near or around Hampton Roads/Chesapeake/virginia beach area. Thanks!

Do you have a military ID? My roommate in college took me to Cheatham Annex (US Naval Supply Center) on the York River to hunt for sharks teeth. I think she prefered that spot in particular because of the lack of foot traffic. But you may have some luck with public access points to the York River.

It%26#39;s a bit of a drive from here but not from F%26#39;burg, on the Northern Neck at Washington%26#39;s birthplace - Pope%26#39;s Creek - you can find shark teeth.

Washington%26#39;s birth place is a no-no for collecting anything since it%26#39;s Federal property. There%26#39;s a state park nearby as are other public access points.

I know this reply doesn%26#39;t really have anything to do with your original question, but

Do you have this book:

?

We got a copy at the Natural History Museum. It is a GREAT book.

We have a place in Hardy County WVA, and have gone to several of the sites listed in the book and have had amazing luck.
