old town

Any recommendations for the best located hotels to stay in Old Town?

I would recommend the Marriott Residence Inn but it is maybe one or two blocks further from some others such as the Hampton.

All depends on what you are willing to spend. Klimpton%26#39;s Hotel Monaco (IMHO) is the best located hotel in the Historic District. King Street begins at the foot of the Potomac and the Monaco is at the 400 block...with the balance of hotels scattered near the metro around the 1800 block...(18 blocks from the water or 1 mile). Holiday Inn Crowne Plaza is on Fairfax about 8 blocks from King. We put friends up at the Monaco....families at the Residence Inn on Duke st.

Be forwarned...Alexandria can be ';The City of'; or ';Alexandria, Fairfax County';. So write back and specify what you are looking for.

BTW....Monaco prices seemed to come down in recent month. They also opened a new hotel on 1600 block of King ';Lorien'; and they have the Morrison House on Alfred Street.

Any of the hotels on the other end of King Street are nice too. Hamptom Inn, Hotel lorien ( new kimpton property, the owners of the Monaco), The Hilton, Embassyy Suites and Residence Inn. The plus for bing on the upper end of Kings Street is that you can walk to the Metro. They do have a free Trolley that runs up and down Kings street either way.

Eat at Fish Market on King Street, awesome fresh tasting seafood!
