Locals- questions on the weather

We have vacation planned for this week June 7-14. Weather.com says Scattered thunderstorms everyday of that week. We%26#39;re getting scared and about to cancel vacation, don%26#39;t wanna spend it there with rain everyday.

Can someone tell me how it is there right now?

How do the beaches look due to the storms?

Does it rain just once for a few minutes and then it%26#39;s all over or is it a down pour there lately?

Weather forecasting is not my specialty but I appreciate your concerns and will try to answer your questions......

Right now there are thunderstorms rolling through the area %26amp; until 7pm there is a tornado warning (quite unusual)....here%26#39;s what happened today...until about 9am it was raining lightly and overcast (rained alot overnight too), then sun came out %26amp; was a beautiful 75+ degree day until about 3:30-4pm and heavy rains came, since then it%26#39;s been raining hard at times, light at times and occassionally not at all.

';How do the beaches look due to storms?'; The weather we are having are mostly thunderstorms not a hurricane, so everything is soaked but no damage and of course on the oceanfront during a thunderstorm there is often quite a bit of wind. I am not aware of any damage reported in the area.

';Does it rain just once.....'; The weather we%26#39;ve had today is a bit unusual for us in that we don%26#39;t normally get this much rain, it has to do with this particular storm system that is passing by. I looked at the 10 day forecast...Sunday looks beautiful, Mon 20% scattered thunderstorms (likely not an issue and nothing compared to 80% today), Tues Wed Fri 40% %26amp; Sat Sun 50% of rain (not storms), honestly in our area, anything more than a few days out and the forecast is almost worthless unless they are trying to track a hurricane. Being on the coast, it is most difficult to predict weather accurately.

When you see a prediction of scattered thunderstorms for the mid-Atlantic area in the summer, typically you are talking about late afternoon ';pop up'; storms.

We have such high heat and humidity certain days that this weather pattern will cause thunderstorm cells to form and move east.

Usually, these storms occur in late afternoon and early evening. They can be fierce, but move quite quickly. Very rarely do they ruin an entire day.

So don%26#39;t worry. It rains for 10-20 minutes and pulls out. Very rarely do you wake up and find a rainy day. Although, the spring this year has been very odd.

I just wanted to say thank you again for all who replied. We%26#39;re here and have been since Sunday. It%26#39;s been beautiful!! I am absolutely IN LOVE with VA BEACHH!!

Our hotel(the new Hampton Inn Oceanfront South) is awesome! Brand New and the staff are super nice!!! I%26#39;ll write a review later about our experience.
