Closest hotels to Monticello ...

We%26#39;ll be driving up from Raleigh, and are interested in staying one night at a convenient location nearby, then driving on to Washington, DC, area the next day. Thanks for any info ... :-)

Closest hotels to Monticello ...

There%26#39;s Holiday Inn, Comfort Inn, and Sleep Inn close to Monticello. On 29N (the route toward DC) there%26#39;s Marriott Courtyard and Fairfield as well as the Hampton Inn. If you want to get further north on 29, but still within 30 min of Monticello, try the Best Western in Ruckersville.

Closest hotels to Monticello ...

Thank you, Laura. We are thinking of arriving in Charlottesville Thursday early afternoon, spending the night, then going on the earliest (8:30) tour at Monticello Friday morning ... cause it will be hot as the devil, probably ... then on to a wedding in Springfield, VA (right near DC) on Friday evening.

We are grandparents, who will have our 11 year old granddaughter with us. Any suggestions for other historical things/museums that kids might be interested in ... that we might want to do Thursday afternoon? Also, any fun restaurants (like at Margaritaville in Myrtle Beach, they do balloon animals, etc.)?

Thank you so much for your help!

Laura, after looking over hotel reviews here, I%26#39;m considering staying at the Omni downtown, opening onto the Mall. Taking that into consideration, are there things on/near the Mall that kids might enjoy? Thanks again ...

I think the Omni is a great choice. It has an indoor pool and it%26#39;s within walking of many restaurants. There%26#39;s a iceskate park next to the Omni , a glass making studio on 5th Street and Alakazam Toy Store (fun, unusual toys) right on the Mall. There is also the Virginia Discovery Museum geared toward children, but I%26#39;m can%26#39;t rememeber at what age kids become disinterested in it. Check out www.downtowncharlottesville.net for a list of restaurants and shops on the Mall. Check charlottesvillepavillion.com/fridaysafterfiv… to see who%26#39;s playing for free at the pavillion which is on the opposite side of the Mall from the Omni. Chaps, Henry%26#39;s and Christian%26#39;s Pizza all have kid friendly food.

Have fun!

Laura
