We%26#39;re coming down at the end of June. I had been thinking of going to Virginia Beach for a day, but in some old forum posts I%26#39;m seeing warnings about traffic and statements about a beach in Yorktown with a restaurant area.

Can anyone give more details about this Yorktown beach? Where is it, what%26#39;s parking like, public facilities, etc...

Can anyone comment on traffic to Virgina Beach, best routes, etc...

And if you had to pick between the two where would you go?

I%26#39;ll be traveling with a 16 year old, 13 year old, 10 year old and four year old. So I%26#39;m a little afraid of going to VB and having a cranky 4 year old who needs a nap and being stuck in a car.

Last year we did Jamestown %26amp; Busch Gardens (they loved it) %26amp; CW (bored the youngest ones to tears). We%26#39;re going to do Busch Gardens again for a few days - are there other options you%26#39;d suggest other than a beach?

The two Yorktown sites, Yorktown Battlefield and Yorktown Victory Center, are pretty interesting with loads of room for a younger one to burn off some energy, too.

Yorktown is a river beach, small, no big waves, if that is important to your group. Do a search on the Internet and it will hit. Yorktown Virginia Riverwalk.

I do not like Va Beach - I will drive to the OBX before going to Va Beach. For a day trip Yorktown would be my chocie.

Do a search also for Va Beach - your group may prefer the boardwalk and ocean. Traffic about an hour.

For kids your age I would think Va Beach-more to do.

Thanks for the info - may I ask what you don%26#39;t like about VA beach that would make you pick Yorktown over it for a daytrip?

Forgot to ask, what do you think about doing the Yorktown victory center in the morning, then taking the kids to the Yorktown beach in the afternoon and going swimming? Can we do the victory center in a morning?
