strollers in williamsburg??!!

It%26#39;s me again. I have 2 questions----%26gt;

1.) I have read that no strollers are allowed in williamsburg/historic houses. Is that true??!!

(I have twin 11 month olds -they don%26#39;t walk yet!!, hoping this is not true!!!)

2.) How do I go about getting tickets for the horse carriage rides?? Where do I get them??%26amp; do they allow babies that need to be held on them??

1. Strollers are not allowed in the homes, trade shops, etc. Once you%26#39;ve seen the interiors, you%26#39;ll understand why. Most of the passageways are simply too narrow to accommodate strollers, and it can be tricky getting them up and down stairs. You can take strollers on the streets and sidewalks, and park them outside any building you might want to visit.

2. Purchase the tickets for the carriage/wagon rides at Greenhow Lumber, on Duke of Gloucester Street near the Palace Green. As far as I know, you can hold a baby, but I%26#39;ve never really noticed. You want to get to Greenhow Lumber early, and whether or not rides are available on a particular day is decided in the morning. Inclement weather or extremely hot/humid weather are determining factors.

Hi, ejb -- getting into and out of an 18th-century replica carriage has certain safety issues due to the way the seats are mounted (they are their own shock absorbers, so to speak) and the drivers must be very cautious about both their human and equine charges. With two infants, I would definitely call 1-800-HISTORY and ask to speak with someone familiar with ticketing the carriage rides. Good luck, and enjoy.

Carriage rides are booked at any CW ticket office in person on the day of the ride. The cost is $12.50 per person over 18 mos. with admission tickets, $20 without admissions. Most rides are 15 minute pleasure rides, not tours, except the stagewagon, a very plebeian conveyance, for 30 minutes. Babies may be held on laps and strollers stashed in the Lumberhouse, one of the pick-up points. Strollers are not allowed in the historic building for the reasons cited above, but there are areas outside where they can be parked while you tour. Just a note while on the subject of tours and babies: tours of historic sites can be stressful for babies causing them to become irritated and disruptive. On occasion, guests have been asked to step outside with their child so as not to disrupt others on the tour. Please do not be offended; it is not an indictment of you or your child but a simple measure to insure everyone has an enjoyable experience.

**** Thank you everyone for your help **** like I said.. this is our 1st visit.. so we are excited! ( also my 8 yr. old son%26#39;s birthday) I just hope the weather is nice... we%26#39;ll keep our fingers crossed ;)

If it reassures you at all, we went last year and left our stroller parked outside *a lot* of places - no one touched anything.

When you go into many of the buildings, someone is usually giving a presentation or performing reenactments - you may want to have quiet toys for the babies to amuse themselves with - no squeaky rattle type things to distract from the performance.
