Hi we are travelling to Va Beach June 20-21 and are planning to go to the aquarium. Are the renovations done and all of it open yet? Also we are in our late 30%26#39;s and are looking for a nice place to stay cheap for probably only one night. Any good places nearby to stay within a few minutes driving distance that are cheap and clean? Finally what is the best route to drive to there from the Lynchburg VA area? Thanks to all for your help.
In Town June 20-21 any tips?
Almost any of the hotels along the Boardwalk would be considered ';a few minutes'; from the aquarium. You might try the Sandcastle -- it%26#39;s reasonably priced. Capes Resort and Ocean Suites advertise rates all over the board, but you could call for a firm rate.
When we go your way, we always take 460, but if you%26#39;re really coming from Danville, 58 is good too. If you choose 460, start watching the signs to VB when you get to Suffolk.

If you are going 58 watch your speed in Emporia and slow down even before you hit town. Some signs are hidden and they will ticket anyone even 5 miles over the limit it looks like.
Cool, but when I said ';nearby';, I actually meant nearby to the beach itself. Because I know places away from the beach should be cheaper. We can drive up to the beach the day we want to go there, but dont want to drive all the way back home that night. Looking for something cheap, clean, inexpensive, and quiet so I can get some sleep. Also thanks for the tip about the police in Emporia. I have to admit that, especially on long trips, my foot tends to get heavy sometimes. Also since I am thinking about it right now, how about a good low priced, preferably ';locals eat there'; type seafood place?
VADude3, The good news on Emporia is that the city has raised the speed limit through there, so driving is not nearly as ';scary'; as it used to be.
But back to the hotels, you might also consider Knight%26#39;s Inn on 29th St (not oceanfront - running around $165 depending on number in your group), Econo-Lodge-on-the-Ocean (it gets better reviews than Econo Lodge Oceanfront), and Cutty Sark. Cutty Sark is the least expensive of the ones I suggested - mom %26amp; pop hotel.
What about something about twenty or thirty minutes away? Perhaps in a nearby town? Trying to get down to at least $100.00, or lower if possible. Like I said, I do not mind driving a little ways.
The renovations to the aquarium are not quite complete, probably by the end of June so you may be in luck. The building is still open, though and you will still see most of the fish.
Right off 264 here in Chesapeake is a Holiday Inn Express that is in that price range. It would be easy to get to coming from the beach and very easy to hop onto 460/58. Also in this same vicinity is a Candlewood Suites. These are both part of the Holiday Inn chain (IC Hotels Group). CS is newer and less expensive.
