Summer Dig at Colonial Williamsburg

June 1 marked the beginning of this year%26#39;s archaeological dig at the Ravenscroft Site, located at the corner of Nicholson and Botetourt Streets in the restored area of Colonial Williamsburg. Students from the College of William and Mary are methodically scraping away, looking for remains and evidence of the original property that is known to have been on the site in the mid 18th Century.

Students are on site weekdays through August, and will stop and take time to explain to guests what is being found. This year, only after 10 days, they have discovered artifacts from both the 19th and the 18th centuries.

If you have an interest is how basic archaeology is done and want to see how the entire restored area was once resurrected, be sure to visit the site during your visit. Here%26#39;s a link to the Ravenscroft Dig website:

Thank you for the information! My daughter says she wants to be an archaeologist, so this will be great for her. We will definately stop by the dig site.

If your daughter%26#39;s into archeaology, than this is her kind of place b/c even now they%26#39;re still making new discoveries. Just a week or so ago, they found a new artifact over in Jamestown. It%26#39;s probably too soon for it to be out on display though.
