If you want someplace with restaurants in the plural, you may want to keep looking. Cape Charles is nicer than Colonial Beach, but after a day at Cape Charles, I was ready to move on. There%26#39;s a nice lunch place in Cape Charles, and a pub-type place, and that%26#39;s about it. Unfortunately, many empty storefronts. The little beach, about 100 feet long, which is about 2 blocks from the main drag, looks to be well maintained, with a new restroom, but it is on the bay, so no waves like you%26#39;d get on the Jersey Shore. If very small and quiet is what you%26#39;re looking for, you%26#39;ve found it. Colonial Beach is another one-night stop, with less to offer, in my humble opinion.

There%26#39;s a lot more going on in Chincoteague; the town is on the bay side, and the ocean side is part of the Assateague Island National Seashore, but you can bike over. There are plenty of house rentals in quiet parts of town.

It doesn%26#39;t meet your requirement for walking to the beach - the ocean beach is on Assateague - but it%26#39;s quiet, and easy to walk downtown, or bike, etc.

I should also mention that no pets are allowed on Assateague at any time, not even in the car.
