any info on Wyndham Kingsgate?

We book a 2 BR condo here for 5 days/4 nights beginning of July. This will be our first trip to Williamsburg for our family of 5 with kids ages 15, 10 and 7.

Just wanted to get some feedback on this resort as I haven%26#39;t found anything recent on this board about it. I searched for Kingsgate, but am only getting a very generic description of amenities? Anyone with any personal experience?

Also, wondering which ticket combo will be best for us. My 10-year-old son is into the history and reinactment of the battles, which area for that? The 15-year-old is all about Busch Gardens and the rollercoasters, and the 7-year-old will probably want to stay at the pools at the resort!

We would like to do Colonial, see the 3 replica ships and Indian village. Also, would like to do 1-2 of the walking tours at night. Are there are any restaurants that do period shows and dinner suitable for kids?

We are thinking to pass on Water Country as the resort has several pools. We arrive on Monday, checkout Saturday. Trying to figure out timing to get as much as we can in.

TIA

The Wyndhamn Kingsgate has several reviews here on TA -- here is a link: tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g58313-d239951-…

As far as tickets, the bounce ticket is probably your best bet. Even though the ticket is good for seven days and you are staying for five, the savings should still be in your favor.

For your evenings, a meal in a CW tavern and the Tavern Ghost Walk would be a fun family event. Reservations can be made at 1-800-HISTORY.

Enjoy your visit.

any info on Wyndham Kingsgate?

We are actually at the kingsgate resort now! We arrived here Saturday and are here until next Saturday...I am very impressed with the condo and the resort!! We also have a 2 bedroom and it%26#39;s very clean, plenty of room and very homey!! We have my 16 yr old son and his friend and they go to the recreation room every night and play tennis, and there is a really nice game room, 3 pools, movie place and work out room. You made an excellent choice and you won%26#39;t be dissappointed!! As far as colonial williamsburg, I was VERY dissappointed in it!! I went in my younger years and it was so different then it is today. The reason we drove 17 hrs is because i wanted to show my family a memory of my childhood that i loved and i was so dissappointed!! Now Busch Gardens is very nice. Plenty to do for your 15 and 7 yr old. We will be going to jamestown and yorktown tomorrow so, I will update how they were. I am hopeing it is better then williamsburg! BUT if you happen to like antique shops...the antique mall is the best place ever!!! They actually have two one is very small and the other is HUGE! I hoped that helped you a little!! :)

Thanks for the info. Glad to get some up to date info on the Kingsgate. Sorry to hear Colonial was disappointing. In what way? Let us know how Jamestown/Yorktown are. We were looking forward to CW for our 9 year old ready to finish up 4th grade since they learned a lot of this American History this year and he is interested in seeing a lot of the reinactments, etc.

Just back from a week at Kingsgate in mid-May. Part of the reason you may have had trouble finding reviews is that it is now technically the Wyndham Kingsgate Resort.

We had a one-bedrooom unit with a mini-kitchen, so our in-room experiences probably won%26#39;t be relevant to your two-bedroom experience....other than to say that the one minor maintenance issue we had during our stay (a burned out light bulb in an overhead unit) was resolved within half an hour of the time we reported it!

Don%26#39;t plan on taking your laptop unless you%26#39;re up for paying a fairly healthy (we thought) WiFi fee to a private contractor the resort uses for in-room service ($7.00/day or $39.00 for the week). It%26#39;s not as private, but their computer center in the Activities Center is included in the mandatory $35.00 per week activities fee you%26#39;ll pay at check-in.....certanily adequate for daily e-mail checks etc. although they do limit use to 30 minutes.

The Activities Center does have one of the best arcades we%26#39;ve seen anywhere (for kids or adults) including a Wii set-up with several option on it. The outdoor pool hadn%26#39;t been opened for the season when were were there, but looked nice -- ditto for the miniature golf course, which was also closed because it rained every day we were there.

The location is just far enough off the main drag so traffic noise and hustle-and-bustle aren%26#39;t an issue... but it%26#39;s still very convenient to the Historic District -- about two miles away.

The resort guest staff is fantastically friendly and responsive, but I%26#39;d give a wide, wide berth to the Wyndaham sales staff....they%26#39;re the ones that will entice you with an offer of a free breakfast without ever telling you it%26#39;s also a sales presentation! We encountered them last year at another Wyndham Resort in Williamsburg and caught them in blatent, outright lies three times in a 24 hour period. And be aware that just saying ';No thanks'; at the reception area won%26#39;t necessarily end their efforts. We had phone calls from them awaken us two of the first three mornings we were there! When you decline their offer at the reception area, please be sure to tell them you also want to be put onto their ';Do Not Call'; list to avoid the phone calls to your unit!

And have the kids keep their eyes open for the two families of Canada geese and one family of mallard ducks who live around the pond near the resort entrance -- all three families had young ones when we were there.

As far as attractions -- get the weekly activities listing from the Guest Services folks at Historic Williamsburg...that will help you plan your week. We%26#39;d also strongly recommend both Historic Jamestown (National Park Service site that includes archeological dig sites) and Jamestown Settlement -- a fantastic museum of you get a rainy day in addition to the outdoor sites. Yorktown Battlefield, another Nat Park Service site, has a very easy to follow, informative self-guided auto tour -- with lots of opportunities to get out of the car and walk the battlefield sites.

Except for the sales staff, we liked Kingsgate. I%26#39;d say make up your own mind about the Historic District -- we%26#39;ve visited several times and liked it.

We were there a month or so ago. At Ithink the same place, Wyndham Kingsgate, but name not certain Ours place was very good, thougj make sure you get good directions before you go we did not, and wasted some time.

We spent full week there mostly becuse that is what we had to do with RCI week, However was very good week.

History of Jamestown and Yorktown very vivid. we often choose not to do the replica places because they seem too commercial, but a host at Kingsgate convinced us to do the Jamestown thing. he was right very good.

Anyone intersted in history would have to enjoy Yorktown. I had not realized what a focal battle that was as washington beat the British. Most of area has beed preserved so easy to see. Be sure to take the Park Ranger tour. Ours was quite good. She really knew the history there, answered a few tough questions.

Colonial Williamsburg also good for us. high lights were Patrick Henry talk and Geo Washington talk. Patrick Henry best. Jefferson was not there when we were.

I came away with a wonderful feeling of our early history. I had family nearby in 1640 VA. One gr many times grandfather died in Revolution

We are back from our williamsburg trip. I already told you about williamsburg, the reason it wasn%26#39;t what i expcected was most of the places where you learn how they do stuff was closed. The only good tour was the govenor%26#39;s mansion. We stayed maybe 2 hrs the most in williamsburg. I asked around and alot of people from that area told us it was because of the ecomomy, alot of lay offs and stuff. But, Jamestown/yorktown...VERY nice! We really enjoyed them! Very friendly workers and alot to see! Busch Gardens was alot of fun also. We went there the most. The resort was so nice too. We stayed where ya%26#39;ll are staying and the boys loved the recreation center! A big game room, Tennis courts and movies...they were there almost every night that we got back! I hope this helps you out. If i would have known that CW was that bad I would have just went free to walk the grounds instead of paying for what little we did see! :)

We just revisited CW for the sixth time and found it just as interesting as ever. The programs for summer should be scaled up for the increased tourist numbers over the slower month of May while most schools are still in session. We are planning our next visit for the fall. You should also find plenty of information on the colonial williamsburg website. Enjoy!
