Evening Program Questions

Hi. I%26#39;m going to Williamsburg for 6 nights in July with my husband and 2 children- a 7 year old girl and a ten year old boy. I am wondering about the evening programs. Are prices listed on the CW website for these programs in addition to your passes? Are you only able to purchase evening program tix if you have CW passes? (I%26#39;m plannning to get the bounce passes.) The main thing I%26#39;m wondering is if the evening programs are worth the additional cost. Are they very different from what we will experience during the day? If we do an evening program I am considering Pirates Amongst Us or Ghosts Amongst Us. Thanks in advance for any advice/recommendations!

Evening Program Questions

Many of the evening programs offer a 25% discount with the Liberty Pass. Some are listed on the website, but as a rule of thumb, most evening programs are $12 adults, $7 kids, 6 and under, free.

The evening programs are definitely worth their cost, according to those who attend them and reactions from guests at the various events. The restored area of CW takes on a whole different mood at nighttime, and many say the nighttime activities are a highlight of their trip.

As far as the two programs, Pirates Amongst Us or Ghosts Among Us, most reactions to Ghosts Among Us are that the program is fairly lame -- guests visit a few historic sites and interpreters tell scripted stories in each location. Pirates Amongst us is interesting, but possibly too intense for your 7 year old.

Probably the most popular evening program is the CW Tavern Ghost Walk, which leaves nightly from the front of Shields Tavern on Duke of Gloucester Street. The program is kid friendly, guests love it, and the guides are very interactive, telling spooky but fun tales of things that have happened on the streets and in the buildings of Colonial Williamsburg. While this ticket does not offer the 25% discount, it%26#39;s a good program that the whole family should enjoy. A tip -- if you decide to attend the Tavern Ghost Walk, take the later tour -- it%26#39;s dark and more fun then.

Evening Program Questions

Thanks for the great tips. I didn%26#39;t see the tavern option in the events schedule. My son is very into anything spooky, and my daughter is a brave 7 year old and pretty much up for anything. Do you have experience with the Ghosts of Williamsburg Candlelight Tour (not officially part of CW), and if so how does that compare?

Thanks again!

Ghosts of Williamsburg is a long running evening tour (a private company, not Colonial Williamsburg) that uses stories from the books of L.B. Taylor, a local author who has written many ghost stories about Williamsburg and Virginia. This tour leaves nightly from the front of Barnes %26amp; Noble Bookstore on Merchants Square at the western end of Duke of Gloucester Street.

Of the two, the CW Tavern Ghost Walk is more lively and contemporaneous. Even though it is not currently listed on the CW daily listings website, the Tavern Ghost Walk is a CW program. Here%26#39;s a link to the website: www.history.org/visit/images/ghostwalks.pdf

A call to CW at 1-800 HISTORY will get you reservations on this great tour.
