USA & Alexandria Birthday Celebration on July 11

We will be arriving on this day and are considering going to this event. Can someone tell me more about it? It is at Oronoco Bay Park. We will be staying at Embassy Suites. Can we take the trolly and walk the rest of the way or is best to drive? I am a little concerned about a big mass of crowds trying to get on the trolly at the end of the fireworks. How is the parking?

It also says that there is food. I assume that they will have food trailers where we can purchase your typical carnival foods.

It also says that there is an orchestra concert at 6:00. How long does the concert normally last? What are the sitting options? We aren%26#39;t planning to back chairs on our long road trip.

Any other information would be helpful.

Thanks!

USA %26amp; Alexandria Birthday Celebration on July 11

This is my favorite festival here in Alexandria which reminds me of living in some small town in the middle of the country. So glad you are coming to experience it with us.

The Embassy Suites is about a mile walk to the waterfront, and the entrance to Oronoco Bay Park will be on Union Street around the 400 block. Highly suggest bringing lawn chairs...or at least stopping by CVS for a plastic table cloth to sit on as our rainy season can leave the park rather damp.

Parking is simply not available, and the trolley runs until 10pm (according to the info I could find), and probably wouldn%26#39;t permit its usage given the crowd and timing of the fireworks which would be concluding at the time. Unless you are traveling with tots...which nearly everyone attending will do...I%26#39;d grab a cheap cab back to the hotel if it is truly a burden...otherwise...just ';wing it'; and enjoy our festival.

Food are typical concessions stands and a few local restaurants selling their chili and other treats.

Hope this helps.
