Family Friendly Restaurant near UVA

We will be passing through Charlottesville on our way to DC in July. Our plan is to see Monticello in the morning and then do a quick look at UVA. We will be traveling with 3 kids, 15,13 %26amp; 8. Any suggestions for lunch near the campus?

Lots of places to eat. What kind of food and what kind of budget? Quick or sit-down?

Family Friendly Restaurant near UVA

Like laurava said, there are a lot of different types of restaurants close to UVA%26#39;s Grounds (that%26#39;s what UVA calls its campus). Particularly, there is a seven-block collection of restaurants, bookstores, and shops on University Avenue, called The Corner, located across the street from the University of Virginia.

You can either sit down at a restaurant. Or, if it is a nice day, you can pick-up food, and you can have an impromptu picnic outside on the Grounds.

Here are some notable restaurants:

Mello Mushroom (www.mellowmushroom.com/store/index.php?s=20) Pizza; Sit-down or take out; 1/4 mile from Grounds

Basil (www.basilmedbistro.com/) Mediterranean; Sit-down or take out; less than 1/4 mile from Grounds

The Virginian (www.virginianrestaurant.com) American; Sit-down; directly across from Grounds; Note: This is a favorite amound UVA student.

Take It Away (takeitawaysandwichshop.com) Sandwiches; Take out; directly across from Grounds; Note: This is a favorite among UVA students. I suggest getting the House Dressing with your sandwiches (at least on the side) because is it delicious. But beware, it is addicting.

There are many other places to eat on The Corner that I didn%26#39;t mention. If none of the places I listed appeal to you, simply walk down the Corner, and I am sure you will spot something you will like.

One more thing, parking down by UA may be a hassle if you don%26#39;t know where to look. So, for parking around the Corner: There is also a small pay parking lot right behind some of the shops on University Ave. The alley to the parking lot is right around the the CVS convenience store and a sandwich shop called Little John%26#39;s. I don%26#39;t know what the rates are, but I recall it isn%26#39;t that bad. For free parking, you may be able to find free parking on the street further down University. If there is nothing on University, try turning right onto Madison Ln. In the summer, there is usually parallel parking along the street there. Nothing there too? At the end of Madison, turn right onto Chancellor St. You may be able to find parallel parking spots along that road as well. If you would rather park in a garage, UVA offers parking on Emmet St. (virginia.edu/parking/facilities/central.html)
