Has anyone ever visited Trimble Knob or Mole Hill, Va? My daughter is fascinated by volcanoes and would love to visit these extinct volcanoes in Virginia, but I can%26#39;t find any visitor info on them. You%26#39;d think there would be visitor centers and tours and what not. Thanks!

Here%26#39;s a link to the wikipedia info.

I think they%26#39;re so old that they are only impressive to a geologist.

Well, you learn something every day........I%26#39;ve never heard of Mole Hill (except mountains and mole hills) or Trimble Knob. I found some information and even a photo of Mole Hill on http://www.virginia.org. From the website...for Mole Hill, just do a search by name and for Trimble Knob enter volcano in the search box. Although these are not significant attractions, they certainly are interesting areas so maybe someone out there knows a few more details.
Well, this is a surprise.
Welcome. Glad you posted!
And the little I looked into it...it rates a %26#39;wow%26#39;.
It seems even Monticello is on a hill of lava flows. And Appomattox lies on a fault.

I guess your daughter already has this topo map of Trimble Knob:

You might call...say, Harrisonburg Va visitor info for their feedback on Mole Hill.
Trimble Knob is north of The Homestead. Maybe see what Staunton Convention and Visitor Bureau says.
Here is something that might be interesting. Todd Lake Recreation Area is in the Trimble Mountains. And there is a four mile Trimble Mountain Trail mentioned. See if that would bring you close to the volcano and if you could enjoy the lake as well.
Well, can%26#39;t wait to talk about these volcanoes in Va. (I%26#39;m very intriqued by the formation of gorges and the fact that there are wetlands and pine forests with soft deep sand floors - which still seem like southern things to me - in the mountains in the northeast moutains...things like that.)
Let us know what you find out.
Oh, here%26#39;s that link to the Todd Lake Recreation area and the Trimble Trail:
